January and February
The month of January and February are not a typical Mediterranean climate for Ayia Napa, or the island of Cyprus. They are the winter and rainy season for the island. The weather is not extreme but average day time and night time temperature falls to 19C and 9C respectively. In spite of this low temperature, there is still a standard of five hours of sun light.
Most of the outdoor activities come to a halt, such as water sports, scuba diving, etc. But other cultural activities and festivals are organized. Like the ‘Customary Winter’ with traditional music programs and latest and folkloric dance shows. February has infrequent rain, and it frequently snows in the Troodos (mountain series) – this is ideal to take up skiing!
The weather of Ayia Napa is quite good for the purpose of tourism all the time. I can assure you that this is the wonderful place for celebrating your honeymoon.
The average rainfall of 400 mm, however, is below Mediterranean average, matches more to the climate pattern of the eastern Mediterranean. There is the snowfall on the Troodos mountain ranges for about 50 days a year. The coastal plains have less rainfall, on an average of 300 to 450 mm, falling mostly during the winter. The hilly areas receive an average rainfall of 500 to 700 mm, falling during the winter season, and never in the summer time.
January and February are actually winter time for Cypriots. However, at daytime the sunshine is not absent. During this period, you should be prepared for all the kinds of weather that a European spring may bring. It could rain sometime. The evenings and nights are cold. So it is advisable to wear light winter clothes may be a jacket, light coat, or even a wind breaker but nothing heavy.
